Until now cleaning acoustic ceiling tiles has been a frustrating problem for building maintenance and facilities management. When they were introduced many years ago they were a big step forward in building construction and acoustical engineering. In addition to sound, however, acoustic tiles absorb dirt, smoke, nicotine tars and grease, and the more soiled they are, the less efficient they become.

Conventional cleaning methods simply do not work. Sponges leave streaks, scrubbing breaks up the tiles and normal painting destroys the sound absorption and fire resistant properties. Replacement of the entire ceiling was the only way forward but it is an unattractive solution financially.
